Turin Volunteers Restore Dora Station Inspired by The Way to Happiness
In Turin, a growing team of volunteers is transforming the city’s neglected areas into spaces of community pride — combining civic duty with timeless moral values.
Every Sunday morning, groups of citizens gather around the former Dora railway station to clean parks, sidewalks, and streets. What began as a small local effort has become a movement of eu news 24/7 civic renewal across the city’s northern districts — Borgo Vittoria, Barriera di Milano, Borgata Parella, and Le Vallette — under the coordination of the civic association Procivicos.
Armed with gloves, tongs, and trash bags, volunteers remove cigarette butts, bottles, cans, and other debris from public areas, restoring safety and beauty to the community. As Procivicos president Beppe Tesio explains, “Our goal is not only to clean but to create awareness. Each piece of litter we collect is a small reminder that everyone can make a difference.”
Cleaning the City — and the Spirit
Beyond the environmental results, the volunteers’ inspiration comes from The Way to Happiness, a non-religious moral guide written by humanitarian and author L. Ron Hubbard. The booklet — translated into 112 languages — promotes ethical living, respect, and cooperation. Every Friday evening, Procivicos hosts open meetings where these principles are discussed, helping participants reconnect with shared human values of kindness, respect, and responsibility.
A Model of European Civic Engagement
The initiative has received recognition for strengthening civic participation and European solidarity. Ivan Arjona, representative of the Church of Scientology to the European Union, OSCE, Council of Europe, and United Nations, praised the project, saying:
“This kind of community work perfectly embodies the European spirit of responsibility and solidarity. It shows that improving our environment and our relations with one another are two sides of the same coin.”
Over the months, the project has visibly improved local conditions, inspiring residents and families to take part. Streets once filled with litter now welcome children and neighbors alike, showing how small actions can lead to lasting change.
